Chris Jones Gears Up for a New Flycatchers’ Release

Clementine Is a Gift for You

By Rick Owens

On a cold day in February, a song comes through the speakers to warm the hearts of music-goers everywhere.  It’s called Clementine, and it’s as soothing as it is refreshing. Chris Jones started working on The Flycatchers’ new album fourteen months ago, at times during the pandemic, and a sometimes-strenuous studio process, worried that it might never come.  Chris had recently added the ever-talented Ken Pomeroy to the Flycatchers’ lineup at his live shows, and it was during this time that they, along with Colton Jean, wrote and recorded Clementine in the studio.

“It’s an art piece,” Jones says of his new song.

It won’t be a part of the upcoming Flycatcher’s album, but it is the first release from the same recording sessions.

“I consider that song as a gift to us (Pomeroy and himself) because it was unexpected, and came very naturally,” he continues, “and now it’s a gift to the listener.”

A gift to the listener, indeed. A very stripped-down love song, with a melody and lyrics that will move the listener. You will hear the passion in his heart for every word that he softly speaks, and more importantly, it will invoke the passion in your own heart. Maybe for an old love. Maybe for your current love. Maybe for a love that you’ve dreamed of having. Maybe even for yourself.

Chris Jones and the Flycatchers had gotten some real good traction with the last release “Songs for Red.”  Which, if you don’t have it already, you should probably track that down. And Chris was excited to get back into the studio for a follow up.

“It’s definitely got a different sound than ‘Songs for Red,’” Chris said about his upcoming album, “and I feel like what you have to do as an artist is to create the art that you have in your heart, even if it comes with being fearful of how people might receive it.”

I believe that if you put your best foot forward, bring your talents to fruition, and do it from a place of love, that it will indeed resonate with listeners. And in this case with the release of Clementine, I think that there will be a new “go-to” song for first dances at weddings, romantic dinners, and baby making music as well.

This song kicks off a full year of new Flycatchers songs. About half of it will be close to what you’re expecting with an “Americana” release, and the other half will be some of the most soulful music you’ve heard in a while from an “Oklahoma Red Dirt” artist. (I’ve heard the music… and it’s SO GOOD!) But, for now, buy this song, stream it on your favorite place to consume your music, and whenever you see that the Flycatchers will be in your town, get to that show.  You won’t regret it.

 Peace and Love,

Rick
