Summer is finally here, and everyone is ready for some fun and excitement. There’s plenty around town in the way of live music to satisfy that itch for sure. This list in no way covers it all, but we here at LittleOkieLand we try to make it easy for you to find a list of great local happenings quickly and easily and all in one place. Take a look at this list and pick a few shows, grab some friends and get out there and have some fun. In fact save the link so you can access it at anytime during the month when you get a free night to see what’s going on!

 

JJ’s Alley, located at 212 E. Sheridan. It really is an alley, but it offers a warm and friendly atmosphere, comfy cozy couches and loveseats to lounge on, and great live music options. There is no cover charge. They have live music options every single night. They offer $2 beers during happy hour every day from 2-7 p.m. You can look them up on Facebook for daily updates on who will be playing there.

Every Wednesday at 9:30 pm is Ben Brock’s Invitational Open Mic Night where some of the best local musicians pop in to play a round or two. You just never know who you might see pop up.

Every Thursday from 8-9:30 p.m. is Stand Up Comedy night. Come laugh your cares away and have a drink or two to get a jump start on the weekend.

Each Saturday from 6:30-9:30 p.m. will be Jesse Cahn’s Open Mic night on the downstairs stage.

Every Sunday Blake Lankford hosts the Sunday Sessions, starting at 3pm where some of our great local talent come to play every week. Names like Derek Paul, Eric Dunkin, Kyle Carter, Clint Tharp, Cody Ingram, Caleb McGee, Katie Williams and more have been featured during Sunday Sessions. Afterwards Sunday Night Revival begins. You can get onto the FB page each week to see the lineup.

Every Sunday night starting at 8:30 p.m. on the upstairs stage is Open Mic night with Jeff Rodgers.

 

Oklahoma City’s premiere listening room, The Blue Door, located at 2805 N McKinley Ave, continually books great shows and showcases amazing Singer/songwriters in an intimate setting. The Blue Door offers a unique setting and opportunity for live music. It is generally all ages, and you are welcome to bring your own drinks in with you, alcoholic or non. It’s a great chance to have a more low key and personal setting with the musicians.

Grady’s 66 Pub, located at 444 W Main St in Yukon, always knows how to put on a good time. Darts, pool tables, live music and bottles of Boone’s Farm all abound, what could be better?

Fri. June 2 ~ Mama Sweet 8 p.m.

Sun. June 4 ~ Crawfish Festival All Day. Music by Gentry Counce & Dave Thomason. $10 for a heaping plate of crawfish, corn, potatoes, sausage and mushrooms.

As always The Deli in Norman, located at 309 White St, hosts live music every single night of the week, with a rotating schedule of great live acts. Every Sunday you can find Travis Linville from 7-9 p.m.and Mike Hosty from 10 p.m.. Every Monday the Patron Aints are there from 7-9 p.m. . Wednesdays you can find Harumph from 7-9 p.m. for free, and on Thursdays you will find Kierston White and friends for the Free Country Music group therapy from 7-9 p.m. which include various guests each week. Those are just their regular shows, there are also great line up of other acts each and every week, stay tuned to their social media accounts for up to date listings of shows.

 

Bleu Garten Food Truck Park, located at 301 NW 10th St in Oklahoma City is a great place to grab a bite to eat from a different assortment of food trucks that change every day. They also have giant jenga sets, firepits, bean bag toss, and more to keep you entertained while you are there. They are hosting live music every Wednesday which is always a free show.

Native Spirits Winery located at 10500 E Lindsey St in Norman is a lovely winery offering delicious wines and spirits and also hosts free live after hours music every Friday night from 7:30-10 p.m

The Mill Street Garage Listening Room, located at 32 Mill Street NE in Ardmore will feature Jason Eady & Courtney Patton on Thursday June 15. At 5:30 food truck will be available to purchase dinner, doors open at 6:30 and music starts at 7 p.m. Tickets available at www.ticketstorm.com

Grazzhopper will also be there Thursday June 29, with the same times, tickets also available through ticketstorm.

 

 

Festival season is officially upon us as well, and there are plenty of great music festivals all around the state.

Skyline Bluegrass Festival Jun 01, 2017 to Jun 03, 2017

Music lovers of all ages will enjoy the traditional, lively sounds of bluegrass at the annual Skyline Bluegrass Festival in Shawnee.  A number of talented musicians will come together to share their music with festival attendees. The festival kicks off Thursday night with a bluegrass gospel concert.  Bluegrass instrument workshops will be available beginning Friday at noon covering the bass, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, banjo and dobro.  See some of the best names in bluegrass nationally and locally.  Bring the whole family to enjoy live music in a family-friendly atmosphere, and make sure to visit the concession booth for barbecue, homemade desserts and more. RV sites will be available.

OKC Jazz Fest Jun 01-June 04 2017

Civic Center Music Hall and Bicentennial Park

In downtown Oklahoma City, the OKC Jazz Fest takes over the Civic Center Music Hall and Bicentennial Park for four days. This multi-venue event features some of the best jazz musicians in Oklahoma and beyond. In 2017, the festival headliners include Eldredge Jackson; OKC Jazz Musician Justin Echols; Violinist, Singer and Composer Lucine Fyelon; Olivia Kay; and Melton Bolton. The performances at Bicentennial Park are open to the public at no charge and family friendly. Jazz enthusiasts will also enjoy an art show by Individual Artists of Oklahoma as well as a beer and wine garden. When hunger strikes, there will be local food trucks ready to serve up some delicious snacks and meals. Additional performances throughout the week happen at venues across the city. 

 

Tallgrass Music Festival June 2-3 2017

The annual Tallgrass Music Festival in Skiatook is a fun-filled family event that features top-notch bluegrass music. Join hundreds of visitors that descend upon the Tallgrass Music Festival, previously known as the Skiatook Bluegrass Festival. Festival-goers are encouraged to stay and camp while listening to the lively sounds of traditional bluegrass.

Talented bluegrass artists will take to the main stage Friday and Saturday to entertain crowds of visitors with a children's fiddle competition Saturday morning. The grounds include shaded seating, as well as water and electric hookups. Multiple food and craft vendors will be set up, so make your way to the Tallgrass Music Festival and plan to stay awhile. Children's activities will also be available, so bring the whole family and prepare to be entertained.  Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the best band lineup yet.

The Charlie Christian International Music Festival June 2-3 2017

The Charlie Christian International Music Festival is a fun-filled, two-day event that celebrates the musical contributions of world-renowned jazz guitar legend Charlie Christian, who grew up in Oklahoma City.  This event features jazz, blues, contemporary, Western and old-school gospel music.  Come to the annual Charlie Christian International Music Festival for top-notch performances by jazz greats in the Deep Deuce District in Oklahoma City and stick around for jam sessions, a battle of the bands, great food, arts and crafts and more.

Red Brick Nights June 3, 2017

From May to September, look forward to Guthrie's monthly Red Brick Nights, the town's food truck and live entertainment extravaganza. Gather in historic downtown to browse through the unique antique/boutique stores or rotating pop-up shops and come away with one-of-a-kind finds. Then relax in one of the many fabulous restaurants, or hop line at your favorite food truck for a tasty meal, and tune in as local musicians fill the streets with sound.

A fun packed day for everyone of any age. There will be live music, food trucks, pop-up shops and a variety of children’s activities. Inspired by our community and a collective desire to positively impact our city, the Peace Love & Goodwill Festival is designed to provide a one-of-a-kind estra sensory experience for the entire family. The festival benefits Goodwill Industries of Central Oklahoma’s Youth programs. There will be a full line up of music and other entertainment including Ken Pomeroy, Horse Thief, Willow Way, Katie Williams, Kierston White and more. American Heritage Music Festival Jun 08, 2017 to Jun 10, 2017

Come to the American Heritage Music Festival and enjoy watching nationally sanctioned fiddle competitions on multiple stages. The festival's finale concert features winners in fiddle divisionsplus a full evening of great entertainment. This event is great for families, with jamming and family camping. Daytime events and competitions are held in the comfortable, air-conditioned Grove Civic Center. In addition to the competitions, special concert entertainment, after-concert jam sessions and great food can also be found during the festival weekend. Evening entertainment and fun contests on Thursday and Friday nights at Snider's Camp is free to the public, so bring lawn chairs and enjoy great entertainment on the shore of beautiful Grand Lake O' the Cherokees.

Hudson’s Music Fest June 10 2017

Last year Hudson was diagnosed with pinealblastome brain cancer. He has endured two brain surgeries, four rounds of chemo and is currently residing at St Judes in Memphis for treatment. His family has been by his side throughout treatment and unable to work. We want to help the family during this unbelievably hard time and all proceeds from this benefit will go to the family. Party for a Purpose!

The BBQ 'N Blues Festival in Cushing is an annual event that pays tribute to the community's oil pipeline history. A free, public event held each June, the BBQ 'N Blues Festival pairs exquisite barbecue with blues music performed by musicians from as far away as Chicago. 110 pounds of meat will be smoked on the World's Largest Permanent Smoker for the public to enjoy. Other specialty food vendors will be available.

Local artisans and vendors will also be selling their wares to crowds of festival-goers. Make sure to purchase a tasting kit so you can try all of the delicious barbecue entries and vote for your favorite. You can even pick up a souvenir t-shirt and cup to commemorate the event. Children at the BBQ 'N Blues Festival will enjoy train rides, pony rides, inflatables, face painting, balloon art and more.

In addition, many food samples will be given out from several of Oklahoma's Premier restaurants. Local vendors will have plenty of impressive merchandise and products available for sale, as well. There will also be live entertainment from local artists during Live from the Lawn for your enjoyment.
